Friday saw the premiere of my Sweet Briar Songs, a set of three songs on poetry by Patricia Valdata. I met Pat during my residency at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in March. The songs were written over a period of two weeks in NYC, and completed on May 15th. Rob Frankenberry and Marc Peloquin performed them beautifully on the most recent Tobenski-Algera Concert, on Friday, May 18th.
Also on the program were Tom Cipullo’s Late Summer, Lowell Liebermann’s Nocturne No. 2, Darien Shulman’s Franz Wakes Up…, Chris Czubay’s Goodbye Now, Jeff Algera’s Primal Fantasies of Youth, and Slavko Krstic’s Sphinxes. The concert took place at the Church of St. Matthew & St. Timothy on West 84th St. Tenor Rob Frankenberry, pianist Marc Peloquin, and soprano Gilda Lyons performed.
