Celestial Mechanics (Makrokosmos IV)

I’ll be performing as the page turner with Marc Peloquin and Roberto Hidalgo in George Crumb’s Celestial Mechanics (Makrokosmos IV) on May 2 as a part of the Look and Listen Festival at the Robert Miller Gallery, and on May 31 at BargeMusic.

More listening

Look for more audio coming soon to the “Listen” page.  I hope to upload the IonSound performance of Songs of Love & Madness, and possibly parts of the premiere of Starfish at Pescadero

Letter from a Young Poet

My new work for cello and piano, Letter from a Young Poet, will be premiered on May 3 on the Tobenski-Algera Concert Series by cellist David Russell and pianist Stephen Olsen.  Also on the program will be works by Darien Shulman, Jeff Algera, Eric Taxier, Scott Ordway, Clint Borzoni, and Paula Kimper.

Letter from a Young Poet was inspired by the correspondence of Paul Bowles – particularly those letters he penned to the influential artists, writers, and composers who aided him in his artistic growth.  Specifically, this short Rondo is inspired by a letter Bowles wrote to Gertrude Stein from Tangier in 1931.  I intend to add two more letters (“To Edouard Roditi” and “To Aaron Copland”) to create a short suite.

Starfish at Pescadero in CT

Starfish at Pescadero will be performed in a revised version at the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT on May 4, featuring harpist Megan Sesma, percussionist David West, and soprano Lisa Williamson.

Songs of Love & Madness

The performance of Songs of Love & Madness on March 21 by IonSound was fantastic, and I want to thank the ensemble for all of their hard work and their lovely performances.  Their input in the rehearsal process has allowed me to make some minor revisions across the score so that everybody’s lives can be a little easier, now.

A little addition to the performance was actor Ben Greenstone’s wonderful reading of excerpts from the literary works that inspired the different movements.
